Next Steps for Converting tky2jgd.par and Jordanian Transformation Parameters to NTv2 Format

Background

The initial research task is to convert Japan's tky2jgd.par parameter file into a format usable by open source software. However, the next important step is to convert the Jordanian transformation parameters into the NTv2 format. If the Jordanian parameters become available sooner, the conversion for Jordan can be prioritized.

Next Steps

  1. Review the Structure and Contents of the Parameter File

    • Examine the structure and data of the parameter file (either tky2jgd.par for Japan, or the Jordanian transformation parameters) to understand what information is available and how it is organized.
  2. Research the NTv2 File Format

    • Investigate the NTv2 (National Transformation Version 2) grid file format, commonly used in Canada and other countries, to identify the requirements for conversion. Collect documentation and examples.
  3. Identify Compatible Open Source Software

    • Determine which open source software tools (such as PROJ or GDAL) support the NTv2 format and can utilize the converted parameter files.
  4. Develop or Find Conversion Tools

    • Explore whether there are existing tools or scripts to automate the conversion from the original parameter format to NTv2. If not, plan to develop a custom script for this purpose.
  5. Execute the Conversion Process

    • Perform the actual conversion from the original format to NTv2, and test the resulting file in the target open source software environment.
  6. Adjust Prioritization Based on Data Availability

    • If the Jordanian transformation parameters are obtained earlier than tky2jgd.par, prioritize the NTv2 conversion for Jordan.
